Chhath Puja celebrated in Tangla town of Udalguri district

Hundreds of devotees offered prayers on the bank of rivers and other water bodies on the occasion of Chhath Puja on Sunday evening and Monday morning.

TANGLA: Hundreds of devotees offered prayers on the bank of rivers and other water bodies on the occasion of Chhath Puja on Sunday evening and Monday morning. The devotees thronged the banks of Nonai and Naika river in Tangla town of Udalguri district with wicker baskets filled with offerings to Sun God and Chhathi Maiya, the Goddess who is worshipped during the festival. Places like Udalguri, Kalaigaon, Mazbat, Rowta also witnessed its fair share of celebration by the devotees. Nonai Chath Puja Committee which is celebrating the festival since 1960 witnessed a significant turnout of devotees cutting across caste, community. The festival includes rigorous fast and rituals spanning four days, holy bathing, abstaining from drinking water and food, offering 'argh' to Sun God, standing in water and offering 'prasad'.
