Child used to hide drugs in Lakhimpur

In view of stringent action initiated by Assam Police, drug peddlers have been compelled to change their strategies of peddling drugs.

LAKHIMPUR: In view of stringent action initiated by Assam Police, drug peddlers have been compelled to change their strategies of peddling drugs. Of late, they have initiated a shocking move of using minor children to continue drugs smuggling and avoid arrest. Such an incident came to light in Lakhimpur on Saturday. However, Lakhimpur police managed to bust the drug peddlers' racket.

Talking to mediapersons in North Lakhimpur on Sunday, DSP Runa Neog said that a team of police personnel led by Utpal Borah, the OC of Bihpuria Police Station, launched an operation against two drugs peddlers, identified as Rama Nath Gam and his wife Mina Bori, as per secret information received. Lakhimpur Police had managed to arrest one Daniel Bori with drugs some days back. Mina Bori is the elder sister of Daniel Bori, as per reports.

As soon as the team of police personnel arrived at their house, located at Parbatipur under Banderdewa area bordering to the State of Arunachal Pradesh, the couple managed to run away. However, police found the minor son of the couple at home in a nervous condition. Police recovered 5.4 gm of heroin in 40 containers from the custody of the minor child. Later, police managed to nab the couple from their hideout.

In addition, Lakhimpur Police on the same day arrested one more woman drug peddler identified as Riju Pegu from the Harmoti area of the district. In the meantime, FIRs have been lodged against the drug peddlers. Police presented them before the court on Sunday and they were sent to jail, while the child was sent for counseling under the Juvenile Justice Board.
