SIVASAGAR, June 24: Sivasagar district administration and Sivasagar Municipality Board jointly organized a Citizens’ Meet at Yuva Dal auditorium recently to discuss the priority areas in Sivasagar town that could be developed with the Rs 100-cr City Infrastructure Development Fund (CIDF) from the Centre.
Pallav Gopal Jha, Deputy Commissioner of Sivasagar, presiding over the meeting called upon the representatives of the public to come up with constructive and pragmatic suggestions for development of Sivasagar town.
Attending the meeting, Kamakhya Prasad Tassa, MP of Jorhat, said that if the fund was utilized judiciously, the common grievance of the people of the town that Sivasagar was the most neglected town in Assam, could partly be removed.
He proposed construction of an all-purpose open stage in Boarding Field, besides improving parking facilities in the town, Jamuna canal conservation, developing Borpukhuri Par, Desungmukh as a tourist spot. Of the 551 historical monuments scattered over the district, 45 are protected under ASI and State Archaeology department, he added.
The Deputy Commissioner informed the participants that Rs 18 crore would be spent on improving the historic Jamuna canal and the Anandaram Booroah Park, besides improving walking lanes along the main roads and the central market complex.
The meeting was attended, among others, by Kushal Duwori, MLA of Thowra, Mridusmita Singha, chairperson of Sivasagar Municipality Board, Abhijit Baruah, District Development Commissioner, Nawab Al-Azhar Ali, ADC, Sivasagar, and other leading citizens.
