TEZPUR: Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that poetry is one of the most transformative and powerful art forms that deepens and renews human imagination. It is an immediate path to becoming better people and being the change in the world. The Chief Minister said this while attending the inaugural function of the 19th national convention of All India Poetess Conference as the chief guest, which began at Tezpur in Sonitpur district on Friday.
The Chief Minister, while quoting William Wordsworth, said that poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings. It is the subtle expression of an art form that reminds us about the beauty of nature.
He highlighted the creative works of Rupkonwar Jyotiprasad Agarwala who glorified the beauty of nature in his literary creations.
Stating that India had a long poetic tradition that dated back to the Vedic ages, the Chief Minister said that 5th century Indian poet Kalidasa had a major impact on not only Indian poetry but also on world literature. He also urged the poetesses to reflect on the importance of humanity, harmony and unity in society through their creations.
Chief Minister Sonowal lauded the national convention of the Poetess Conference as a reflection of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.” He said that since the time of Vedic ages, Indian society treated women with high reverence. He said that women power is the supreme power and they have to induce high moral values among the young generation and inspire them to take the glory of India further in the world platform.
Coinciding with the programme, Chief Minister Sonowal presented 19th AIPC awards 2019 to several poetesses.
While Dr. Charu Saharia Nath, chairperson of the organizing committee delivered the welcome speech, Dr. Lari Azad, founder of AIPC spoke on the occasion. MLAs Ashok Singhal, Rajen Borthakur, Ganesh Limbu, chairman of Jyoti Chitraban Pabitra Margherita, vice chairman of AMTRON Ritu Baran Sharma and delegates from different States were present in the inaugural function.
