GORESWAR: Goreswar College, a premier higher educational institution in Tamulpur district, successfully completed 50 glorious years of its establishment. To mark the occasion, a grand golden jubilee celebration was organized from July 6 to July 8 with a series of vibrant and colourful events.

Attending the closing ceremony of Goreswar College’s Golden Jubilee celebrations at Goreswar on Tuesday, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, while paying his heartfelt tributes to the founding fathers of the college, congratulated the Principal along with other faculty members, administrative staff, and students. He said that the hard work of some progressive personalities for a college bore fruits on 29 August, 1974 when Goreswar College made its emergence in the academic landscape of the state.

The college received the government’s approval in 1985 and became provincial in 2005. Over the years, Goreswar College has transformed itself into a front running educational institution busy in churning the intellectual faculty of the youth and making them resourceful citizens of the country, the Chief Minister added.

Dr Sarma also said that several alumni of the college had excelled in their chosen fields while enriching the state's human resources. He, in this context, referred to Biswajit Daimary, an alumnus of Goreswar College, who is adorning the post of the Speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly.

Stating that educational institutions in an area were responsible not only for academic development but also socio-economic empowerment, Dr Sarma said that Goreswar College had also become a cause for the socio-economic and academic empowerment of Goreswar.

He also said that as a result of the right bonding of the teacher and student, an educational institution can strengthen the foundation of an intellectual society. Goreswar College, showing the right kind of synergy between the teachers and students for the last 50 years, has been strengthening a society imbued with merits, he added.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma said that the nation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had embarked into a journey for Viksit Bharat by 2047. The CM said that in this Amrit Yatra, youth of the nation have to take a decisive role as ‘Amrit Santan’. The Chief Minister said that in the Amrit Kaal, the conventional mode of education had undergone a sea change, wherein the students need to empower themselves with the emerging subjects. He said that the latest subjects like AI, Quantum Physics, Machine Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Augmented Reality, Data Analytics, etc. had expedited the pace of change and development.
