‘Congress is shedding tears when Manipur limping back to normalcy’: CM

DIBRUGARH: Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday said that Congress is shedding tears when Manipur is limping back to normalcy. Talking to reporters in Dibrugarh on Saturday, Assam CM, who is also the chief convenor of NEDA said, “Now Congress is crying when Manipur is limping back to normalcy. The situation in Manipur has been improving day by day and within 10 days more improvement will be seen and everything will be fine.”

“Congress should have made hue and cry when the situation was volatile in Manipur. At that point of time they never visited Manipur neither they commented. Manipur is almost limping back to normalcy, now they are talking about the state. The situation of Manipur has much improved and within few days normalcy will return in the state,” NEDA convenor Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

He further added, “Silently Manipur government and Union Home Ministry has been working to bring peace and normalcy in the State. Discussion with stakeholders has been going on to bring back peace.”

Meanwhile, Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday honoured the Bihuas and Bihuwatis with citation and cash incentives at a function held at Moncotta in Dibrugarh on Saturday. Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister Dr. Sarma said that the mega Bihu event at Sarusajai Sports complex in Guwahati in the month of April which got featured in national and international media was a recognition to Bihu and the Bihua and Bihuwatis who took the dance to a greater height. Through the event, the culture, costume and competence of the people of Assam were promoted to the global level.

The Chief Minister said that ever since Prime Minister Narendra Modi donned the Asomiya Gamosa, the use of it has become widespread throughout country. He expressed hope that with the promotion of Bihu at the global stage, the Bihu dance will soon be as sought after as other popular dance forms across the country and the master trainers will have to travel around the country to teach Bihu to people of other regions. He also said that government will stage Bihu in New Delhi featuring around 25 thousand Bihuas and Bihuwatis.

Dr. Sarma said that with the celebration of 400 birth anniversary of Lachit Borphukan in New Delhi, there has been new inclination among the people to know more about the patriot. He said that a book exclusively on Lachit Barphukan was published and attempt has been made to translate the book into different regional languages. His government will take steps to release the book in every state and introduce a lesson on Lachit Barphukan in the curriculum of other states. The Chief Minister said that the proposed statue of Lachit Barphukan being installed in Jorhat once complete will become one of the three most imposing statues of the country.

The Chief Minister also said that in order to transform Assam into one of the most developed states, the youth power of the state will have to be utilized productively. As a part of it, State government has made the recruitment process very transparent and accordingly appointed educated youth to government jobs. This has given Assam a new identity. To keep the future of Assam secured, State government has also decided to plant one crore saplings on October 2, 2023. He said these plants will become commercial resources in next five years.
