Constitution Day observed across Assam

The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Darrang with a view to join the countrywide celebration of the Constitution Day organized a function at Mangaldai Law College in association with the college authority

MANGALDAI: The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) Darrang with a view to join the countrywide celebration of the Constitution Day organized a function at Mangaldai Law College in association with the college authority on Sunday. This day has been celebrated to mark the adoption of the Constitution of India by the Constituent Assembly of India after years of deliberation on this day in 1949.

In the meeting presided over by the Principal of Mangaldai Law College Mrinali Saikia Barua, District and Sessions Judge Abhijit Bhattacharjya read out the preamble of the constitution before the august gathering. Taking part in the celebration as the resource persons, Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate ( Sadar) Pranab Kr Nath and Chief Legal Aid Defence Counsel Mridul Sarma spoke in details on fundamental rights and duties while secretary of DLSA Shatabdi Bhuyan offered the vote of thanks. The students of Mangaldai Law College performed a mind blowing street play on drug abuse and its affect in the society.

DHUBRI: Constitution Day was observed in Dhubri BN College by college’s NSS unit on Sunday. In this connection, the unit organized a quiz and speech competition on Constitution of India. The event kicked off with the welcome speech by the programme officer of NSS Unit, Dr. Rezibul Alom, He in his brief speech explained the importance of the constitution followed by the reading of the preamble by NSS volunteer. The event quiz was inaugurated by Prof. Abdullah, Associate Professor of the College while students and volunteers of NSS participated in the quiz competition. At the end of the programme prizes were given to the winners.

Dibrugarh: The Department of Political Science of DSHK College and Dr. Rohini Kanta Barua Law College jointly observed the Constitution Day at the college premises of Dr RKB Law College. The event was chaired by the principals of both the colleges Dr. Sashi Kanta Saikia and Dr. Gautomi Dutta Bora respectively, the HOD of the Political Science Department of DSHK College, Dr. L. Doungel and by Iqbal Ahmed, senior journalist and former president of All Assam Journalist Union. The theme of the event was democracy, constitution and role of media in India. The event was an outcome of a MOU signed between both the institutions previously on November 17, 2023. The event began with the ceremony of lighting of the lamp and paying tribute to Dr BR Ambedkar ,under who’s chairmanship a committee drafted the Indian Constitution. It was followed by an introductory speech presented by Dr. L. Doungel. The Principal of Dr RKB Law College delivered the welcome speech. It was then followed by the reading of the Preamble by Siddhant Jaishwal, general secretary of the Dr RKB. Law College Students’ Union and the Preamble was recited by the audience along with Jaishwal.

The event was inaugurated by the Principal of DSHK College. The resource person Iqbal Ahmed spoke on the main theme of the event and highlighted all the important aspects of democracy, the Constitution of India and the role of media in maintaining the spirit of Constitutional Democracy in India. He initiated his speech by explaining the meaning and the types of democracy, freedom of speech and the concept of constitutional governance. He then highlighted how media actually originated from the basic roots of communication. He even spoke on the aspects of verification of the authenticity of the news published or broadcasted by the media and the factors that influences the functioning of the journalists.
