Cow Smuggler Caught in Kaliabor, Two Cops Injured in Police Operation

Cow smuggler caught after high-speed chase ,one cow dead and four rescued as police open fire

Kaliabor: A suspected cow smuggler was apprehended in the early hours of Friday after a high-speed chase and firing incident in Kaliabor. The incident took place around 3:00 AM, when police attempted to intercept a vehicle suspected of cattle smuggling.

According to reports, the car bearing registration number AS01FR5730 tried to escape by ramming into the police vehicle. In the process, two police personnel ASI Jayanta Bora and Lance Naik Pabitra Bhuyan sustained injuries and are currently undergoing treatment at a hospital in Tezpur.

Police said they fired shots in an attempt to stop the vehicle and aimed at the tires. However, due to the high speed and dangerous driving, they were forced to shoot through the window, which tragically led to the death of one cow. Four other cows were safely rescued from the vehicle.

The arrested accused has been identified as Mamtaz Ali, a resident of Samaguri. He is currently in police custody and further investigation is underway.
