GOLAGHAT: “Through the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY), farmers have been able to reap the benefits. About Rs 263 crore has been received by the farmers of Assam through this flagship scheme of the Central Government. In Golaghat district, a total of 16,184 farmers have received around Rs 16,53,000,” said State Agriculture Minister Atul Bora while participating in the launch of the Crop Insurance Week under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana in Bokakhat on Sunday. The minister urged the agriculture officers and the officials of insurance companies to take steps so that the farmers can get the benefits of the scheme. On this occasion, a total of 12 beneficiaries were formally handed over cheques at a function held at the auditorium of the Puwati Sahitya Sabha at Bokakhat.
Participating in the open meeting held on the occasion, minister Bora spoke about agricultural mechanization, commercial value farming, micro irrigation, various flagship schemes of the Central Government, millet farming as nutritious food, natural farming, organic farming, income through maize cultivation, double cultivation in Assam, doubling of farmers’ income, doubling of farmers’ income, etc.
District Agriculture Officer Ranjit Kumar Sharma delivered the welcome address at the open meeting. Arrangements have been made to compensate the farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana on the basis of loss of produce in various natural calamities. For this scheme, the farmer has to pay an insurance value of Rs 100 per hectare of agricultural land.
