GOLAGHAT: In a significant operation, troops of F/142 Bn CRPF, in coordination with Civil Police, Merapani, under D Sector DAB Assam- Nagaland Border seized large quantity of foreign made cigarettes on Saturday.
142 Bn CRPF sources said that a special Mobile Naka Duty was executed on Merapani-Golaghat Road, falling under D Sector, DAB. During the operation, a suspected Tata Truck (06-wheeler) bearing Registration No. AS-01-BC-7088 was chased and intercepted near Adarsha Village, under the jurisdiction of PS Merapani, D Sector, DAB. Upon thorough inspection, the vehicle was found to be transporting a large quantity of foreign-made cigarettes, concealed in plastic bags. Cigarettes (Gudang Garam Brand) 29 cartons containing 4,17,600 cigarette sticks, cigarettes (WIN Brand) 82 cartons containing 8,20,000 cigarette sticks, Cigarettes (Esse Lights Brand) 49 Cartons containing 4,90,000 cigarette sticks, Vivo Smart Handset with 1 SIM Card were seized from the vehicle. In this regard Babatu Gogoi, aged 31 years (driver of the vehicle), were handed over to PS Merapani in Golaghat district for further legal action.
