NAGAON: Bishnuram Medhi, a retired assistant engineer and noted activist of Assamese folk culture, breathed his last at his South Haiborgaon residence on Friday morning.

Born in 1962 at Hatichung Medhichook in the district, Medhi started his career as a junior engineer in the Water Resource department and retired as an assistant engineer in the same department a couple of months back. Besides, he was associated with a slew of cultural organizations and rendered his selfless services in the field of folk culture as well as folklore of the State for over 40 years. He was a perfect 'Sutradhar' and played the role of it in many Assamese Ankia Bhaonas since his childhood and also rendered his selfless services as a judge in Bihu dance competitions across the State.

He leaves behind his wife, two sons and a host of relatives. Several cultural organizations, including Silpi Kanon Asom, Gandhar, Surar Panchoi, local MLA Rupak Sarma and others condoled his demise and also paid tribute to his departed soul. His demise has cast a pall of gloom in his native village Hatichung Medhichook as well as in Nagaon town.
