HAFLONG: The department of cultural affairs in collaboration with the Dima Hasao district administration is organizing a 10-day summer workshop at the Govt Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Haflong, beginning from Wednesday. The workshops organized as per government instruction are being held in all 126 Legislative Assembly constituencies (LACs) of Assam including Dima Hasao

Assam Minister for Sports & Youth Welfare, Nandita Gorlosa, attended the ceremonial inauguration of the programme along with District Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das, ACS. The programme initiated by the cultural affairs department is intended to blend the students’ activities with cultural, physical as well as extracurricular knowledge.

As part of the programme, for the next ten days, mandatory yoga sessions for all participants will be held for around an hour to be taught by reputed Yoga Teacher Phaiham Kemprai, later to be followed with various knowledge-enhancing sessions on health consciousness, drug abuse and awareness, amusement activities, traditional Dimasa Baidima, Bihu dances and songs, career counselling, etc. Each of the sessions will be moderated by the subject matter experts arranged by the department.

Assam Minister Nandita Gorlosa in her motivational speech spoke about how the students should keep their aims high and encouraged them not to feel inferior for studying in government schools. She said that they should rather utilize all the facilities provided to them by the government. She spoke about how the present venue for their workshop has produced IAS, IPS officers, and innumerable successful personalities.

District Commissioner Simanta Kr Das reiterated that the 10 day-schedule had been prepared keeping in mind the students so that they learn with fun. He also told the students to make the most out of the programme and asked the students to inform the organizers if they would also like to include any other skill or class as part of the sessions.

The workshop will provide students with the opportunity to immerse themselves in educational sessions through fun and frolic. Officers from the district administration, cultural dept, education dept, teachers, and others were present during the event.
