DIBRUGARH: "Ever increasing cyber crime in recent times is adversely affecting our society," said Dibrugarh Superintendent of Police Shwetank Mishra in an awareness programme on Cyber Safety and National Security organized by Dibrugarh District Police on Friday at Lalchand Kanoi Memorial auditorium of DHSK College, in collaboration with CID Assam, IQAC DHSK College, Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), MHA and Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
He further said that cyber crime was spreading in society at such a rate that it would create a dangerous situation for the future generation. Lauding the efforts of the organizers, SP Shwetank said, "This kind of awareness programme is a way of developing knowledge among the youths on issues related to cyber crime."
Deputy Commissioner of Dibrugarh, Biswajit Pegu, who graced the occasion as chief guest, in his speech appreciated the efforts of Dibrugarh District Police and also thanked the authority of DHSK College for their cooperation in this wonderful effort. He also briefly talked about the means of eradicating cyber crime from society. DC Pegu also released an awareness song on cyber crime.
Resource person Dr Gunadeep Chetia, Programmer, Dibrugarh University, explained in detail the various ways and means by which the cyber criminals cheat the common man and what safety measures one should take to avoid being hacked. He also asked the students to be careful while using mobile phones and downloading various apps. An interesting drama on the theme of cyber crime was also performed by the students of National School of Drama.
More than 500 participants from various schools and colleges of the district attended the programme. Earlier, Principal Dr Sashi Kanta Saikia welcomed all dignitaries and others. Dr Saikia appreciated the efforts of Dibrugarh District Police towards creating awareness among students on crucial issues.
