GOALPARA: The District Child Protection Unit (DCPU), Goalpara carried out a large-scale awareness drive on the legal procedures of adoption recently in the district.

Mustafa Hussain, District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) said that the DCPU team visited every development block, met prominent local leaders and voluntary organizations and shared the knowledge of the actual criteria for adoption of a child.

"There are hundreds of Prospective Adoptive Parents (PAP) who want to adopt a child but lack proper knowledge about the guidelines which works as a hindrance. It is in this area where the DCPU comes forward for their help," said Mustafa Hussain, DCPO, Goalpara.

Hussain further said, "We should always go for adopting a child from a government recognized Specialized Adoption Agency (SAA) or we can directly register online at www.adoptionindia.nic.in. The people of Goalpara district may also contact the DCPO at the mobile number 9707553951. But adopting directly from nursing homes, hospitals, private bodies or individuals is not permissible."

On the other hand, Pranjal Choudhury, ADC on Social Welfare charge, appealed to people to cooperate in the child welfare issues for the best interest of the children. He also requested people to approach either the district administration or the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for care and protection issues of children in the district.
