Debate competition held at Chandranath Sharma HSS, Bihaguri

JAMUGURIHAT: To commemorate the 132nd birth anniversary of freedom fighter, Karmaveer Chandranath Sharma, a debate competition was organized at Chandranath Sharma HSS, Bihaguri under the aegis of Bihaguri Karmaveer Chandranath Sharma Sahitya Sabha recently. The programme began with the hoisting of the flag by Jitendra Kumar Saikia, president of Bihaguri Karmaveer Chandranath Sharma Sahitya Sabha followed by offering a floral tribute, lighting of ceremonial lamps and a cultural programme.

In this connection, a debate competition was organized to commemorate the jayanti of the unsung hero of the freedom movement. The topic of the debate was 'Mother tongue is the only medium of acquiring total and meaningful education'. The competition was chaired by Dr Jogen Kalita; senior professor of Gauhati University and ably judged by Dr Ranjan Kalita, Principal of Rangapara College; Dr Hari Barua of LOKD College and Yuva Sahitya Academy Awardee Anjan Baskota.

A good number of students from various educational institutions participated in the debate and a huge number of students were present. The top three position holders were Manasjyoti Nath (Class XII) of CNS HS SCHOOL; Bihaguri, Anjuman Bharadwaj of Institution of Mass Communication and Media Studies, Guwahati and Tanvi Devi of Yuganayak Sankardev Sishu Niketan, Tumuki respectively.

The debate competition was followed by a prize distribution ceremony and a book release event that was graced by Jadab Chandra Sarma, the chief secretary of Asom Sahitya Sabha among others. Binita Sut Kataky, secretary of the literary body conducted the proceedings assisted by Meenakhi Goswami, Bablu Kalita and Prabin Kataky.
