DIGBOI: Fear psychosis has gripped the illegal liquor sellers and inter-state liquor smugglers in Digboi and nearby areas after Digboi Police launched a crackdown against illegal liquor.
Dibya Jyoti Dutta assumed office as Inspector of Digboi police station a couple of days back and he has led the drive to bust illegal liquor dens and hotels selling illegal liquor in this oil town. According to reports, he broke innumerable drums of stored liquor at roadside dhabas along the NH38, besides raiding several interior villages like Lakhipather and Nazirating. He has issued severe warnings to the local liquor manufacturers to change their source of livelihood with the assistance of local police.
“Even the hotels or licenced bars, if any, will not be allowed to sell liquor after 10 pm within Digboi jurisdiction,” said Dutta, adding, “Let people buy from the retail outlets and drink comfortably at home. I urge upon the people of Digboi and the youths of the society in particular to come forward and join hands with the police to get rid of the menace of illegal liquor - one of the potential reasons behind domestic violence and petty crimes in society.”
