Haflong: On July 22, 2025, The Dima Hasao District Congress Committee has submitted a formal representation letter to Assam Governor Sri Lakshman Prasad Acharya via Deputy Commissioner Dima Hasao, demanding urgent intervention and continuous monitoring of the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC), Haflong, over alleged financial mismanagement and growing indiscipline in its functioning.
In the letter, the Congress accused the BJP-led NCHAC of creating massive financial liabilities amounting to over ₹300 crore over the past three years. The memorandum, signed by Assam PCC General Secretary Nirmal Langthasa and Dima Hasao DCC President Haijerangbe Niame, stated that the financial crisis is self-inflicted and has been acknowledged even by BJP leaders and workers.
The party pointed out that Dima Hasao, for the first time in its history, is facing such a severe economic crisis. Despite increases in the state’s annual plan and NCHAC’s revenue receipts, the council has failed to maintain financial discipline, resulting in unpaid gratuities and liabilities, emphasizing the need for accountability and transparency.
This crisis is adversely impacting the local economy and the wellbeing of the tribal population in DIma Hasao district, who rely on the financial health of the NCHAC for governance since 1952.
They appeal to the Governor as a guardian to monitor and keep in check the financial mismanagement and safeguard the interests of the people of Dima Hasao.
