LAKHIMPUR: The Lakhimpur District Task Force meeting on Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), Japanese Encephalitis (JE) and other Vector Borne Diseases (VBDs) was held on Wednesday in the conference hall of the Deputy Commissioner's office.

The meeting commenced with ADC (Health) Geetali Duworah in the chair, wherein Lakhimpur district VBD Counselor Deenesh Nath apprised the AES, JE and VBD status of the district with power-point presentation. He informed that this year only two AES patients, one in Bihpuria area, other in Dhaulpur area had been reported in the district till date. On the other hand, no JE patient has been reported in the district. In the malaria-prone areas of the district, blood samples have been collected in order to detect VBD patient, he added.

From the chair, ADC (Health) Geetali Duworah asked the Task Force members to combat VBDs by adopting every measure. Lakhimpur district VBD Nodal Officer Dr CS Pegu appealed to the people of the district to ensure cleanliness in their areas to destroy and prevent breeding of mosquitoes, which are the main carriers of VBDs. He also appealed to all to come forward for blood test in case of suspected symptoms.
