Dr Bhupen Hazarika remembered at Udalguri Sahitya Sabha Bhavan

UDALGURI: Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was remembered at a commemoration meeting held at the Udalguri Sahitya Sabha Bhavan, which was presided over by Binapani Devi.

The meeting began with a song sung by Anju Dutta followed by poem recitation by Sumitra Deka Baishya, Arpana Hazarika Kalita and Pradip Baishya. Tarapati Upadhyaya delivered a speech commemorating Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s life and works. During the session, literary pensioner Vishnu Sarma and Devaraj Sapkota were felicitated by Udalguri Sahitya Sabha and Bhupen Hazarika Pratimurti Nirman Samiti.

DHEKIAJULI: People from all walks of life came together on Sunday and gathered at the Dhekiajuli Community Library campus to observe Bharat Ratna Dr Bhupen Hazarika’s 93rd birth anniversary. For this purpose, a meeting was held under the president ship of Karuna Dutta Borah, noted social worker of Dhekiajuli. Ramesh Chandra Borah, former headmaster of Dhekiajuli Boys’ High School, Dr Hari Boruah, Head of the Department of Assamese of LOKD College and other prominent personalities were present.

Ramesh Chandra Borah in his speech spoke about the contribution of Dr Bhupen Hazarika. The programme was held under the aegis of North East Sakha Sahitya Sabha, Dhekiajuli unit, Dhekiajuli Samasti Nagarik Moncha, Government Pensioner Association, Dhekiajuli unit and Dhekiajuli unit of AASU. The cultural icon’s songs on universal brotherhood, humanism, communal amity, universal justice and empathy were sung where noted local artiste Naren Haloi also participated.

TINSUKIA: The 93th birth anniversary of Sudhakantha Dr. Bhupen Hazarika was observed at Sadiya, the birth place of the Bard of Assam. Floral tribute was paid to the statue of Dr. Bhupen Hazarika located at Rukmini Udyan, Chapakhowa. This was followed by a cultural programme. Renowned singer and younger brother of Sudhakantha, Samar Hazarika was present on the occasion and paid his tribute. The programme was organized by the sub-divisional administration led by Biswajit Phukan, SDO(C) Sadiya.b
