GUWAHATI: The administration of Kamrup Metropolitan District has ordered the closure of several wine shops located near the bordering region of Meghalaya. The following are the details of the order.
In pursuance of Govt. W.T. Message Memo No. ECF No.271931/60 dated 7th February 2023 and power conferred upon under Rule 326(A) of Assam Excise Rules, 2016 and under section 135(C) of Representation of the peoples' Act, 1951 of section Rules, The Governor of Assam is pleased to declare 'DRY DAYS' from 4:00 P.M of 25/02/2023 to 4:00 P.M. of 27/02/2023 including the day of the counting of votes which is fixed on 02/03/2023 is also declared as DRY DAY till the process of Counting is over in the adjoining/bordering areas with Meghalaya (Barnyhut to Khanapara Flyover, 14th Mile, Khetri, Sonpur, Basistha (Pilingkata) Game village Lohkora, Pamohi) in respect of holding General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya.
During the period, the Governor of Assam is pleased to Prohibit the Possession of any intoxicants by any person or groups of persons, a total ban on the sale of liquor, giving or distribution of Spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances of alike nature at a hotel, eating house, tavern, Shop or other places - Public or Private.
All Bonded (Wholesale) Warehouse, IMFL Retail "OFF" & "ON" Shops including Club & Hotel ON and Country Spirits Shops will remain closed during the DRY DAY. During this period the Storage of Liquor by individuals shall be curtailed. During the above period, the restrictions provided in the Excise law on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises shall be vigorously enforced. Steps shall be taken to prohibit the sale of liquor in adjoining/bordering areas with Meghalaya. Any violation of the order shall be dealt with under the relevant Provision of the Assam Excise Act and Rules & under the provision of section 135 (C) of Election Rules to respective constituencies.
