Elephant calf dies after falling into drain in Behora Tea Estate in Numaligarh

An approximately three-year-old wild elephant calf died on Tuesday night after falling into a drain in the Mikir Chang Line area of Behora tea estate, under the Numaligarh forest range.

BOKAKHAT: An approximately three-year-old wild elephant calf died on Tuesday night after falling into a drain in the Mikir Chang Line area of Behora tea estate, under the Numaligarh forest range.

The incident occurred while a herd of wild elephants, including the mother and her calf, was moving through the area. During this movement, the calf fell into the drain.

On Wednesday morning, tea garden workers noticed the calf trapped in the mud and informed the Numaligarh forest department. Forest officials conducted a post-mortem examination and later buried the carcass.
