Elephant calf rescued by locals at Tezpur

Tezpur: A wild elephant calf was recovered by local people at Balipora Fulbari Tea Estate on Monday.

As per a report, the elephant calf got separated from the herd in the middle of the jungle and lost its path.

The 10-month-old elephant calf was then rescued by the local people at No 22 Ambari line in Sonitpur district today.

Meanwhile, the forest official reached to the spot and took the custody of the wild elephant calf. Later, the calf was sent to Kaziranga Animal Rehabilitation Centre by the forest department.

In a similar incident, earlier an elephant calf was rescued at Batiamari village under Behali Police Station in Biswanath district on October 31, 2018, by some villagers.

Forest personnel along with doctors arrived at the spot after being contacted by the local people and provided treatment to the calf. The elephant calf was later transported to the rehabilitation centre in Kaziranga.
