Biswanath Chariali: The Black Cat, an English language fantasy short film directed and produced by Bhargav Saikia, won the awards for Best Cinematography (A. Vasanth) and Best Music (Advait Nemlekar) at the Critics Choice Short Film Awards in Mumbai on December 15.
The Black Cat was also nominated for the Best Film and Best Director awards. Critics Choice Short Film Awards is an annual award show presented by the Film Critics Guild, a newly-formed association of India’s top film critics, in partnership with the Motion Content Group. Nominees and winners were chosen after evaluating more than 500 short films from across the country in all Indian languages.
The Black Cat is an official adaptation of a short story written by celebrated Indian author Ruskin Bond, featuring veteran actors Tom Alter and Shernaz Patel in the lead roles. The film received rave reviews from leading Indian and foreign media publications after its online premiere on November 14. Bhargav’s previous horror short film, Awakenings, was also a huge success in the international genre film festival circuit.
