KHERONI: An eviction drive is set to be launched along the Assam-Nagaland border to clear encroachments in the Bokajan-Lahorijan area of National Highway (NH) 39, under Bokajan Revenue Circle, Karbi Anglong. Many encroachers have been observed camping with their belongings along the highway connecting Dimapur to Golaghat town. This marks the second eviction drive in the region, following a previous operation at Dudu Colony.
Dr Numal Momin, Deputy Speaker of the Assam Legislative Assembly, emphasized a strict stance, stating that ‘not a single inch of land will be given to doubtful outsiders’ and that houses of drug peddlers will be demolished immediately. The Assam Government, under Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, has been actively conducting eviction drives across the state, asserting that encroachments will not be tolerated. The government claims to have executed at least one eviction drive in every district, deterring people from settling on encroached land.
Dr Momin also addressed the issue of waterlogging, which has caused significant damage to roads near the Assam-Nagaland border. He directed the Chief Engineer of Assam and officials from the Bokajan and Barpathar divisions to undertake repairs and construction to resolve the issue. He further assured that encroached lands on both sides of All Lahorijan NH 39 and government properties will be cleared soon.
Dr Momin was accompanied by nominated MAC Mukut Mahanta, Kakumoni Saikia, SDO (Civil) of Bokajan, and law enforcement agencies during his visit to the area.
