Ex-servicemen reunion rally held in Mangaldai

MANGALDAI: In a unique initiative to reach out to all the ex-servicemen living in the far flung rural areas of both the districts of Darrang and Udalguri, the Darrang Zila Sainik Welfare (DZSW) office, Mangaldai organized a series of reunion rallies covering the ex-servicemen (ESM) of Darrang and Udalguri district. The final rally was held on Wednesday at Bonmajha village under Patharighat Revenue Circle in Darrang district. The celebration marked with flag hoisting, wreath laying, grievance redressal session, felicitation to ex-servicemen and brave widows, cultural programmes by ESM and their dependents, community lunch etc.

Director of State Sainik Welfare Board Brigadier (retd) Dinesh Ch Mazumdar attended the rally at Bonmajha as the chief guest. In his address he underlined several issues related to the welfare of the ESM, their widows and dependents like reservation of jobs, seats in government medical and dental colleges , exemption from different fees and taxes in government services etc and appealed to the ESM and their families to avail such benefits with the help of the District Sainik Welfare Office at Mangaldai.

Earlier, District Sainik Welfare Officer, Darrang Colonel (retd) Padma Lochan Barman delivered the welcome address while Dimbeswar Bhatta, president of Paschim Mangaldai Sainik Welfare Committee offered vote of thanks. The programme anchored by ex Navy official Dilip Deka also featured a free medical camp. Different stalls were also set up with the help of the local unit of the army to guide the ESM regarding their due benefits. Similar programmes were also held at Khoirabari and Rowta in Udalguri district on March 17 and 18 respectively with the help of the Tangla and Rowta Sainik Welfare Committees. Superintendent of Police of Udalguri Supriya Das and officials of the Army operating in Udalguri also addressed the reunion rally at Rowta.
