Assam is experiencing a severe heatwave that is negatively impacting people’s daily lives throughout the state. Residents are having trouble performing basic duties like going to offices, colleges, and schools because of the etreme heat, which makes everyday chores intolerable. According to reports, heat-related ailments have claimed the lives of atleast 10 people till now. Three people from Guwahati and inhabitants of Duliajan and Goalpara are among the victims.
Over the previous 20 years, heatstroke has claimed the lives of over 34,000 individuals in India, according to official figures. There are still major health hazards associated with the rising
temperatures, particularly for vulnerable groups.
A coconut water vendor told a reporter, "I sold more than 500 coconuts yesterday alone. People are always come to cool off because the heat is so oppressive. It felt like the warmest day of the year, with more customers than I've ever had in one day.
The Assam government has adjusted school schedules in response to the
deteriorating circumstances, putting student safety first in the midst of the
intense heat. Concerns regarding public health and safety have been raised by the harsh conditions. The new schedule, which will be in place until June 16, calls for schools to
begin sessions earlier in the day and end them earlier. Large regions of India are finding it difficult to handle the unrelenting rise
in temperature, and the effects of the heatwave are not limited to Assam.
