CACHAR: In a shocking incident on Monday morning, a father and his 12-year-old son were caught allegedly selling drugs at Bhaga Bazar near the Assam-Mizoram border. Locals discovered a disturbing new tactic in drug dealing using minors to carry and distribute drugs.

According to eyewitnesses, the father had hidden small plastic containers filled with heroin in his son’s pockets and was selling them in the market. Suspicious locals checked the boy’s pocket and found the concealed drugs. Enraged, they caught the duo and began beating them. The frustration of the people is understandable, given the unchecked spread of the drug problem.

Amid the chaos, the father escaped on a scooter, and shortly after, the son took advantage of the distraction and fled as well. Police arrived at the scene after receiving reports of the incident, and locals handed over nine small containers filled with heroin, which were recovered from the father and son. The police have now launched a manhunt for the duo.

Despite regular efforts by the Cachar Police, who manage to apprehend drug peddlers and confiscate large amounts of drugs through “intelligence” and “tip-offs”, questions remain about how drug dealers continue to smuggle and sell drugs openly in markets.
