LAKHIMPUR: A field day on mustard was organized under APART (Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project) at Bor Alengi Satra village under Karunabari Block by Assam Agricultural University (AAU)-Zonal Research Station, North Lakhimpur.
The field day was attended by 28 participants, including farmers and farm women. While briefing the objective of the programme, Dr Pinky Pathok, Project Associate, APART mentioned about High Yielding Indian Mustard variety ‘DRMR-150-35’ developed by the Directorate of Rapeseed and Mustard, Bharatpur, Rajasthan.
The field day was organized at the end of the crop season to observe the performance of any new varieties by the non-beneficiaries. Addressing the participants, Dr Yater Das, Junior Scientist, RARS, North Lakhimpur discussed practices of rapeseed and mustard and encouraged farmers to adopt new technology.
Towards the end of the programme, a crop cutting was done to estimate yield and recorded several yield attributing characters like Silqua/plant, grains/siliqua, etc. Average plant height and grains/siliqua observed were 191 cm and 12, respectively. Scanty rainfall and lack of irrigation facilities are the two problems faced by the beneficiary farmers.
