SIVASAGAR: Due to relentless rainfall in the bordering state of Nagaland over the past several days, multiple villages in Sivasagar district were severely affected by flash floods. The downpour resulted in flash floods in both Nazira and Amguri revenue circles, affecting a total of 22 villages.
According to Sivasagar District Administration sources, in the Nazira revenue circle, the villages of Geleky Lahon Gaon and Gohain Gaon witnessed floodwaters, while under the Amguri revenue circle, around 20 villages were inundated. The impacted villages include Ladoi Grant, Bangali Gaon, Tipuk Grant, Burhagaon, Jaradhora, Doomgaon, Namti Bangali, Balimora Kukurachowa, Lunpuria Gaon, Bailung Gaon, Kachari Gaon, Kumar Gaon, Dhadumia Gaon, Sensowa Gaon, Gharpholia Gaon, Dibruwal Gaon, Purani Changmai Gaon, Natun Changmai Gaon, Dhupor Moridongiya Gaon, and Maut Gaon.
The situation in many of these villages became dire, with rising waters entering homes and disrupting road connectivity. Taking immediate note of the crisis, circle officers from both Nazira and Amguri revenue circles visited the flood-affected villages to assess the ground situation and interact with residents. They have been gathering firsthand information on the challenges being faced by the people and are coordinating closely with higher authorities to ensure timely relief.
The District Commissioner of Sivasagar directed all relevant departments to stay alert and provide necessary support. Relief measures are being carried out by the administration. Officials from the disaster management department, health services, and PWD are also monitoring the situation closely.
