Former AMCH Principal Dr. Ratan Kumar Kotoky Passes Away

DIBRUGARH: Former Principal of Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMC&H), noted writer, columnist, poet, Yoga exponent and an outstanding social researcher, Dr Ratan Kumar Kotoky, passed away on Tuesday morning at ICU in AMC&H due to COVID-19. He was 67.

A Resident of Old D.C Bungalow Road, Dr Kotokey is survived by his wife and two sons, besides his other family members, a large number of followers and well-wishers.

Dr Kotokey, an alumnus of Dibrugarh Government Boys' Higher Secondary School who had pursued his MBBS course in AMC&H and obtained the degree in 1974, started his career as Registrar in Cardiology Department but later he did his Ph.D in Medicine. Dr Kotokey, who was well versed in Sanskrit, did his doctorate in literature from Dibrugarh University.

Dr Kotokey as a physician tried to apply medical science blended with Yoga and India's traditional medicine. Well versed in religious scriptures of all major faiths, Dr Kotoky wrote a number of articles, columns on socio-religious subjects and their impact on society and individual's life, a subject that drew attention of the readers widely. A number of books on medicine, religion, science, in general and five books on Sri Sri Srimanta Sankardeva in particular were on his credit. Dr Kotokey was the recipient of the Auniati Xatra-sponsored Srimanta Sankardev Award in 2019. The Chief Minister handed over the award at a function held at Kacharibari Auniati Xatra, Dibrugarh branch in presence of Sri Sri Dr Pitambar Dev Goswami, Xatridhikar of Auniati Xatra.

A prolific writer and poet, Dr Kotokey was also president of Dibrugarh Nagar Kabi Sanmmilan. His last rite was performed here adhering all COVID protocol.
