Former Bureaucrat MGVK Bhanu Resigns from Congress Party

MGVK Bhanu, former IAS officer and Congress candidate for Tezpur Constituency in the 2019 last Lok Sabha polls has resigned from the party on Tuesday. On February last Bhanu joined the Congress.

In Lok Sabha polls, Bhanu lost to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Pallab Lochan Das.

On July 31, 2018 he retired as the additional chief secretary to the Assam government in the labour and welfare department, Assam.

He was an IAS officer of 1985 batch originally hails from Andhra Pradesh.

He also served as the chairman of the Tea Board of India, a former secretary of Andhra Pradesh chief minister YSR Reddy during deputation in 2004.

As per reports, Bhanu quoted- “I have nothing against the Congress party, but resigned due to personal reason”.

Bhanu has accomplished many developmental works in Tezpur during his posting.

In the last Lok Sabha polls, he was appointed as the election in-charge of Jalukbari Assembly Constituency, which is represented by Assam Finance minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

He was not even seen in Congress campaigns in the last by-polls.
