Foundation day of Chatia College observed in Jamugurihat

The foundation day of Chatia College was observed with a day-long programme on Thursday.

JAMUGURIHAT: The foundation day of Chatia College was observed with a day-long programme on Thursday. Two entrance gates of Chatia College and Chatia Junior College donated by Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika in memory of his freedom fighter father Gunadhar Hazarika and memorial gate in memory of Rabin Saikia, former MLA of Sootea, were inaugurated by Deva Kumar Mishra, the Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur and Sootea MLA Padma Hazarika respectively.

A public meeting was held with Dr Ajit Hazarika, principal of THB College, in the chair. A memorabilia compiled on the life and ideology of freedom fighter Gunadhar Hazarika was released by Dr Rani Hazarika, head of the department of Anthropology, Gauhati University. The public meeting was attended by Pallab Lochan Das, MP, Tezpur HPC, Padma Hazarika, MLA, Sootea, Pramod Borthakur, MLA, Biswanath, Deva Kumar Mishra, the Deputy Commissioner of Sonitpur, Munindra Nath Nagatey, Deputy Commissioner of Biswanath, besides other dignitaries.

Pradip Kumar Medhi, retired principal of Chatia Junior College, was accorded a farewell. Persons including Sharmistha Barmudoi, Bhawarnab Saikia and Kushjyoti Gogoi who brought laurels to Sootea in different fields were felicitated by the college authority.
