GUWAHATI: Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today undertook a daylong tour of Chirang district and chaired a review meeting to assess the progress of implementation of key government welfare schemes in the district.
While chairing a review meeting at the conference hall of the District Commissioner’s Office in Chirang, the Chief Minister directed DC Jatin Bora to take necessary steps to ensure last-mile saturation of all government development schemes in the district. During the meeting, he reviewed the administrative preparedness for the effective implementation of Orunodoi 3.0, CMAAA, Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, and the distribution of ration cards to eligible beneficiaries. Taking stock of the progress made so far in the preparation of beneficiary lists under the schemes, the Chief Minister instructed the District Commissioner to ensure that no eligible beneficiary is left out. He further emphasized that steps must be taken to ensure that the benefits of these schemes reach the grassroots level.
Taking stock of the implementation of the Chief Minister’s Atmanirbhar Asom Abhijan, Dr Sarma stated that while 406 beneficiaries had been covered under CMAAA in Chirang district, the number would be increased to 1,200 under CMAAA 2.0. Regarding Orunodoi 3.0, he said that the government has set a target of covering 60,000 beneficiaries in the district under the scheme. Reviewing the Mukhyamantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, the Chief Minister directed the District Commissioner to ensure that the scheme effectively empowers women across the district. He further instructed that no eligible women's self-help group should be left out of the scheme’s benefits.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also asked the officials concerned to complete the finalisation of the beneficiary lists by 15th August so that the government can launch the schemes at the earliest. While reviewing the progress of ration card distribution, he directed the District Commissioner to identify a total of eight thousand eligible families from the Sidli and Bijni Legislative Assembly Constituencies, four thousand families from each LAC, to bring them under the ambit of ration card benefits.
Moreover, the Chief Minister also reviewed the connectivity issues of Chirang district and stated that, in response to public demands and considering the hardships faced by residents living on both sides of River Champa, the State Government would take appropriate steps for the construction of four bridges over the river. He further added that under the Asom Mala scheme, several important roads in the district would be upgraded and newly constructed to improve overall connectivity. Addressing the issue of drinking water, Dr. Sarma assured that the government would soon take necessary measures to resolve the challenges faced by the people in this regard, a press release said.
