TAMULPUR: A youth with drugs was arrested in Tamulpur on Wednesday after being spotted by some local youths. The arrested youth was later handed over to Tamulpur police along with drugs and objectionable documents.
The arrested youth has been identified as Kalachan Ali (25) of Dabaka Puron Bazar under Dabka police station in Hojai district. The youth, along with an associate, allegedly reached a house in Dumaria village of Tamulpur on Wednesday. The two youths took advantage of the absence of male members in the house at that time and introduced themselves as tantriks. They sold two amulets at Rs.2900. Again, they demanded Rs 7,000 in cash to protect the family from evil forces through special prayers. When the woman said she did not have the money, the youths gave their mobile phone numbers and asked the woman to inform them after managing the amount. The woman later informed the matter to one of her neighbours.
Her neighbour was convinced that the woman had fallen into the hands of the fraudster. The neighbor asked the woman to call up the two youths. She called them up and asked them to meet at Ghograchowk of Tamulpur town. When the youths reached the spot, a group of local youths who were waiting for them, tried to nab them. They managed to catch Kalachan Ali but the other escaped.
The local youths informed the matter to Tamulpur Police Station immediately. A police team led by Police Inspector Bhaskar Dewgharia, Officer in-charge of Tamulpur Police Station rushed to the spot and detained Kalachan Ali. Police seized two containers filled with drugs, Rs 620 in cash, one mobile handset and seized some objectionable materials from the possession of Kalachan Ali.
