Freedom fighter Horendra Nath Kakoty passes away in Gaurisagar

GAURISAGAR: Horendra Nath Kakoty, veteran freedom fighter and a resident of Fakum Nakatani village of Konwerpur mouza in Sivasagar district breathed his last on Saturday evening. He was 107.

Born on March 19, 1912, the centenarian freedom fighter got inspiration from his family to join the Indian freedom movement. His elder brother Robin Kakoty was a prominent freedom fighter, first MLA of Amguri LAC and pioneer of the Assam Cooperative Movement.

Horendra Nath Kakoty joined the Indian freedom movement when he was in class IX. He opposed the British Karninghum Circular which was imposed in 1930. As a result, he was imprisoned for a period of six months in 1932 and also expelled from the school. Various organizations like APCU Sivasagar district committee, Krishti Bikash Samaj, Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, Na Katanai Yuva Samaj, Harmotigar Moina Parijat,Harmotigar Unnayan Samaj and AASU Pachim Konwerpur Regional Committee condoled his demise.
