Dibrugarh: The HS Road – right in the middle of the New Market here – has become a source of environmental pollution recently. Already on a sticky wicket due to the encroachment of parked cars and other vehicles into its surface area, it has now become a favourite destination for the dumping of garbage too. The problem has been made worse by mobile vendors selling various kinds of spicy items. They offer these items on disposable dishes, which often get dumped along the roadside. Situation near City Tower is especially lamentable.
The civic authorities, although taking few measures, are clearly falling short of their obligations. It is an irony that when the governments of both the Centre and the State are promoting Swachh Bharat Mission with such enthusiasm, the agencies responsible for executing the same are shirking their duties.
