BOKO: In a scathing attack on the ruling BJP, Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi accused the state government of carrying out inhumane eviction drives aimed at displacing the poor and benefiting corporate conglomerates like Ambani and Adani. Gogoi made these statements while reviewing preparations for an upcoming Congress mega rally scheduled for July 16 in Bongaon under the Boko-Chaygaon constituency.

Speaking to reporters during his visit, Gogoi remarked, “We have repeatedly condemned the BJP’s inhumane eviction operations. To this day, the government has not answered a critical question: where will the displaced people go? It is now evident that the ruling regime is obsessed with seizing land from the poor and handing it over to Adani and others to protect its own political interests.”

He added that the people of Assam had begun to see through what he called a ‘land-hungry’ government. “The Chief Minister is using these tactics to cling to power, but the public understands these schemes well,” Gogoi asserted.

Gogoi further criticized what he described as the BJP’s preferential treatment of the elite, claiming, “Today in Assam, land is controlled only by ‘Mama-Mami’ and Ambani-Adani. Common people are being pushed out to appease big business.”

The inspection visit came ahead of a high-profile public meeting that will be attended by Congress national President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. The duo is expected to address key state issues and rally grassroots support for what Congress aims to position as a credible alternative to the current BJP-led government.

Preparations for the event are being carried out at the Shanti Nijora Club, with active involvement from Congress leaders and workers. APCC President Gaurav Gogoi was accompanied during the visit by legislators Rekibuddin Ahmed, Nandita Das, Dudhnoi MLA Jadab Swargiary, and several district-level party functionaries.

The July 16 gathering is also expected to witness participation from Congress’s mandal, block, and district presidents, as well as former panchayat election candidates. The meeting will serve as a strategic platform for outlining the party’s roadmap ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
