The discovery that Basanta Sarania, a resident of Changsari in Kamrup district, is not the legitimate owner of the Gir cows discovered at Prasanna Rabha's home in Udalguri's Bergaon is a shocking development in the continuing debate over the ownership of Gir cows in Assam. Officially, Dibyajyoti Kashyap, not Basanta Sarania, was the buyer of the cows.

Records show that on February 10, 2022, Basanta Sarania and Dibyajyoti Kashyap imported 32 Gir cows from Gujarat. But according to all purchase and transportation records, Kashyap is the only person listed as the legal owner.
In spite of this, Sarania had been insisting his ownership of the Gir cows and had even made an appearance in Udalguri with paperwork in hand.
Sarania doesn't have any additional legal ownership documents; she only has the DNA test certificate. He eventually gave the cows to Prasanna Rabha for free after raising them for almost two years, claiming personal difficulties.

Further investigation shows that Dibya Kashyap is listed as the animals' legitimate owner in the DNA certification certificates. Kashyap, a citizen of Guwahati, presently resides in an apartment in Kahilipara, close to Agradoot Bhawan. Sarania was compelled to acknowledge on camera that he is not the true owner of the livestock after being presented with evidence.
