BOKO: A health sub-centre at Gohalkona village under Boko Assembly Constituency in the Kamrup district is in a pitiable condition. The Gohalkona Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centre, previously known as Gohalkona Sub-centre situated along the Assam-Meghalaya border is 11 kilometres away from Boko and around 70 kilometres away from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). The centre runs in a dilapidated house, where normal delivery, normal injury treatment and other activities, like non-communicable diseases screening and treatment, child vaccination, antenatal check-ups, providing Ayushman Bharat Card etc. are done. The centre is run by a Community Health Officer (CHO), a Multi-Purpose Worker (MPW, Male), two ANM nurses along with three ASHAs (Accredited Social Health Activist).

“According to rules, this kind of centre should have its own government building. I joined this centre in the year 2010, yet no government building has been constructed for this centre till today,” said Atanu Medhi, MPW (Male) of the centre.

“The house where our centre is running is donated by the villagers and the condition of the house is very poor. Every year we have to repair the house after a thunderstorm with the help of the local public and from the centre’s untied funds. Officials of the National Health Mission, Circle Office were to survey for government building construction. They even took GPS locations many times. The people of the Gohalkona village showed the necessary land but no government house has been constructed for the centre till date,” added Medhi.

The centre management committee and local villagers recently held a meeting at Gohalkona Playground and they decided to submit a memorandum to the Assam Chief Minister through the Boko Revenue Circle officer to construct the new building for the Gohalkona Medical Centre.
