GUWAHATI: A devastating fire wreaked havoc in Guwahati's Barbari locality on Sunday night, consuming more than 15 business establishments, according to reports. The blaze unfolded within the bustling bazaar at Barbari Tiniali, with initial assessments indicating that it reduced at least 19 shops to ashes, primarily those dealing in fruits and vegetables.

The local community in Barbari has raised suspicions that the extensive inferno may have been the result of a deliberate arson attack carried out by unidentified culprits. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation.

Responding swiftly to the emergency, the local authorities dispatched both police personnel and fire-fighting teams to the scene. Three fire tenders were urgently deployed to combat the raging flames, working diligently to bring the situation under control and prevent further devastation.

As investigations into the fire's origins and circumstances continue, the affected business owners and the community are left grappling with the aftermath of this significant loss. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the critical importance of fire safety and prevention measures in commercial areas to safeguard businesses and communities from such catastrophic events.

Earlier, an incident of fire took place at a scrap material godown in the Bamunimaidam area of Guwahati. According to local people, the fire broke out at around 2 a.m. on Thursday, and firefighters continued to work hard to completely extinguish the fire. The godown had large quantities of scrap materials, including plastic items and other combustible materials. It became difficult for the firefighters to completely extinguish the flames as these materials continued to burn under the surface. Although the firefighters could bring the flames under control in a limited time.

The firefighters mentioned that they could stop the fire from spreading into the nearby buildings within the hour, but it took them a very long time to completely douse the flame given the amount of combustible substances present in the godown. Although the exact cause of the fire has not been known yet, local people have speculated that it could have been due to an electrical short circuit or could have been arson by some miscreant.
