GUWAHATI: Covid has seen a resurgence across the country and the state of Assam is no different. Recent testing has revealed several new infections in the city of Guwahati.
After a girl was reportedly tested positive on Tuesday, the Police Commissioner of Guwahati tested positive for Covid on Sunday. Diganta Barah is now under home isolation for the same.
According to reports, the girl who belongs to Demow in the Sivsagar district of Assam was suffering from a high fever for a few days. That was when they decided to take a Rapid Antigen Test and the test reports came out positive. The doctors reportedly gave the suggestion of home isolation to the girl in order to prevent any spread of the virus.
India recorded a total of 10753 new cases and 27 deaths due to Covid on Saturday. The number however came down on Sunday with the detection of 9111 new cases.
Four COVID-19-positive cases were detected in Assam in the past few days. However, the State Government maintains that there is nothing to worry about and that the Health Department is monitoring the situation. Speaking to the media, Health Minister Keshab Mahanta said, “In the past few days, we have detected four COVID-19-positive cases in Kamrup (Metro) and Karimganj districts. All four patients are in home isolation. Their hospitalization is not necessary. We hope they will recover soon.” He further said, “The situation in Assam is not that serious. We are monitoring the entire situation in the state on a daily basis.”
Speaking to The Sentinel, GMCH Principal Dr Achyut Kumar Baishya said, “Due to the change in weather, viral fever with the common cold has spread in the state. There is nothing to worry about. They, however, need to be cautious.”
Bharat Biotech had recently mentioned that the company is ready to resume the production of Covaxin while the Serum Institute of India mentioned that their Covovaz will be reaching all major cities of the country in a few days.
