HAFLONG: Halali Progressive Welfare Society (HPWS) Umrangso submitted a memo to the Dima Hasao District Commissioner requesting recommendation for the proper implementation of the Memorandum of Settlement (MoS) to the state government.
As an organization of former Dima Halam Daogah (DHD) cadres, HPWS Umrangso has been democratically fighting for the implementation of the MoS signed between the DHD brothers and the Government of Assam, India, on October 8, 2012.
The MoS was a landmark agreement aimed at bringing peace and prosperity to the region. However, more than thirteen years have passed, and the promises made in the agreement remain unfulfilled. HPWS Umrangso, registered as a non-governmental organization (NGO), has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights of former DHD cadres. Beyond their efforts to implement the MoS, the organization is actively involved in social work, including education and flood relief distribution.
The society’s primary demands include the rehabilitation of former DHD cadres, withdrawal of all cases against them, and the implementation of all clauses of the MoS in letter and spirit. Despite numerous prayers and requests, the organization has yet to see tangible results. In an appeal to the District Commissioner of Dima Hasao, the HPWS Umrangso urged for sympathetic consideration of their grievances and swift action to recommend their concerns to the state and central governments.
