Guwahati: Minister of Health & Family Welfare and Irrigation, Assam Ashok Singhal, on Thursday visited Darrang and Udalguri districts as part of an extensive review of healthcare and irrigation infrastructure. In the morning, the Minister inspected three hospitals in Darrang district, beginning with the Sipajhar CHC. He visited the pharmacy, laboratory, maternity ward, general ward etc. and interacted with patients to assess the quality of healthcare services. \A review meeting was also held at the CHC.
Later, the Minister visited the Patharighat Block Primary Health Centre. During a meeting there, he called upon officials and community leaders to intensify public awareness campaigns under the Swasthya Baan Asom initiative to encourage preventive healthcare practices at the grassroots level.
In the afternoon, Minister Singhal visited the Mangaldai District Civil Hospital. Being aware of the increasing of patient, he directed the Joint Director of Health Services, Darrang, to implement a digital registration system using advanced software for patient convenience. Prior to the hospital visit, he attended a meeting where Dr. Utpal Baruah, the hospital’s Deputy Superintendent, briefed him on several infrastructural challenges. During the Mangaldai hospital inspection MLAs Basanta Das and Dr. Paramananda Rajbongshi, Chairman of Assam Fisheries Development Corporation Gurujyoti Das, Executive Director of NHM Dr. Manoj Kumar Choudhury, District Commissioner of Darrang Parag Kumar Kakoti, and Joint Director Dr. Dipti Baruah were also present.
Minister Singhal also participated in a tree plantation programme on the hospital campus.
At 2:00 pm, the minister reached 200-bed Udalguri District Civil Hospital, where he visited all hospital wards including the registration counter, dialysis unit, and maternity ward. He interacted with patients and held a detailed review meeting. During the meeting, he discussed challenges faced by the hospital and instructed departmental authorities to take immediate steps for resolution. He urged all health officials and staff to diligently discharge their responsibilities and maintain service efficiency.
Later in the evening, Minister Ashok Singhal inspected the Dhansiri Irrigation Project in Bhairabkunda, Udalguri. A comprehensive discussion was held on the project’s safety mechanisms and various challenges. He directed the Chief Engineer to prepare an annual maintenance report and also instructed construction of barricades along the main river and repairs to the canal system, stated a press release.
