DIBRUGARH: In the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic, when fear and anxiety dominated social media, Hemchandra Dutta, a soft skills and meditation teacher from Jalvari Village, Dhakuakhana, took a compassionate initiative.
Witnessing the distress in his friends’ Facebook posts, Dutta announced his intention to conduct free online meditation classes to help alleviate their stress and fear. His post received an overwhelming response, leading to the creation of a WhatsApp group named ‘Hem’s No-Mind Meditation.’
This group soon went viral, attracting around 150 participants from Assam and beyond who benefited from regular free meditation sessions, finding relief from the morbid atmosphere of the pandemic.
As the pandemic subsided, Hemchandra Dutta joined Dibrugarh University as the coordinator of the Soft Skills Development Cell.
In October 2024, he revived and renamed the WhatsApp group to ‘Hem’s Academy.’ The academy now offers transformative courses, including Meditation, Ho’oponopono, Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), conducted in evening sessions.
From January 1 to January 7, Hem’s Academy observed ‘Positivity Week,’ a week-long celebration blending wisdom and transformative practices. The event featured online meditative and healing sessions alongside inspiring talks from seven distinguished personalities: writer Sanjit Kumar Bordoloi, literary critic Areendom Borkatoky, Head of the Department of English, Dibrugarh University Prof Mridul Bordoloi, Poet and Nature Activist Manash Pratim Dutta, Professor, Department of Physics, Dibrugarh University and Poet and Translator Prof Kalyan Bhuyan, Assistant Professor, Centre for Studies in Philosophy, Dibrugarh University Dr Kirtinath Kalita, Software Professional and Graphotherapist from Pune Tapaswini Mohanty.
