Historic Moment: Assam to Witness 1 Crore People Singing ‘O Mur Apunar Desh'

GUWAHATI: Assam is set to make history as 1 crore people unite to sing ‘O Mur Apunar Desh’ together. The initiative aims to foster unity and celebrate the state’s rich cultural heritage.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has expressed his wish to organize this monumental event, following the success of previous mass performances like Bihu, Jhumur, and Bagurumba dances.

The event is scheduled to take place on February 24, 2025, during the ‘Jhumur Binandini-2025’ program at Sarusajai Stadium, where over 8,000 dancers from tea gardens will participate. This initiative reflects Assam’s commitment to promoting unity and cultural pride.

In another similar move, an initiative by T.A.N.M.I Record, where most deaf and mute individuals performed the state anthem 'O Mur Apunar Desh,' and got the state record recognition from the Assam Book of Records last year in March, as per reports.

The organizers expressed gratitude towards Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Pijush Hazarika for their guidance and support.

They also thanked the associates, the Assam Association of the Deaf, the NERIM Group of Institutions, the BDS-Government School of Hearing Impaired, and the Dakhin Kamrup Deaf School for their utmost support, adding that they will proceed for further recognition, such as the national and international records.
