Homen Borgohain's birthday celebrated at Dhakuakhana

LAKHIMPUR: The fans and followers of Homen Borgohain celebrated his birthday on Monday in his birthplace Dhakuakhana. Born at Mohghuli Chapori under the subdivision of Lakhimpur district on December 7 in 1932, the noted intellectual figure of the State turned 88 this year. He is a renowned Assamese writer and journalist who is currently working as the editor-in-chief of an Assamese daily newspaper. He was awarded the 1978 SahityaAkademi Award in Assamese language for his novel Pita Putra. Borgohain has also written several novels, short stories and poetry. He was also the president of the AxamXahityaXabha.

Retired Principal of Dhakuakhana Normal School, Khirod Gogoi inaugurated the public programme organized on this occasion by observing the formalities of birthday celebration. In his lecture, KhirodGogoi underlined the reasons for the popularity of HomenBorgohain's literary works among the readers of the State.

On the other hand, Hemanta Kumar Baruah highlighted the experiences of his journalistic career in association with HomenBorgohain. Artiste RajibTamuli recited a poem composed by HomenBorgohain while journalist RajibBaruah recited a self-composed poem which has been composed on HomenBorgohain's literary works.

HomenBorgohain's relative and poet Mouchumi Hatibaruah delivered an informative speech highlighting various aspects of his life. In addition to them, professor of Dhakuakhana College, Dilip Hatibaruah, retired police officer Nripen Saikia, journalist Arun Chamuah and writer Nabanita Gogoi also delivered speech in programme on the multifaceted talents and work of the intellectual figure. Vocal artiste Kashyapi Tanaya Gogoi presented songs in the programme.
