Cachar: Days after going missing following a disturbing mid-air incident, Hussain Ahmed Mazumdar has safely returned to his home in Lathimara village under Katigorah, bringing relief to his worried family and local community.

Mazumdar had been untraceable since Friday, following a violent altercation aboard IndiGo flight 6E-138 from Mumbai to Kolkata. A video that went viral on social media showed him being physically assaulted by a co-passenger during the flight.

After the flight landed in Kolkata, Mazumdar reportedly disappeared from the airport premises, triggering panic and a desperate search by his family. For nearly two days, there was no official information on his location. He was eventually found on Saturday evening at Barpeta Road railway station, far from his last known location, and reached home by road on Sunday morning.

The reunion was emotional. Speaking briefly to reporters in a low voice, Mazumdar said, “I tried to reach IndiGo, but got no response. I’ve left everything to Allah now.” He appeared physically and emotionally affected by the incident.

The family has expressed deep dissatisfaction with the airline, accusing IndiGo of failing to protect their passenger and provide any assistance or updates during the crisis. “They abandoned him when he needed help the most,” a relative stated.

Amid mounting public criticism, IndiGo Airlines has imposed a lifetime flying ban on Hafizul Rahman, the co-passenger seen in the video attacking Mazumdar. The airline also issued a statement saying the incident has been reported to the authorities and that crew members acted in line with guidelines.

However, Mazumdar’s family plans to pursue legal action against the airline, citing negligence and indifference. “This is not just about one person, it’s about how flight safety and passenger rights are treated in India,” a family member told reporters.

The incident has sparked widespread debate over in-flight safety, passenger support, and the responsibilities of airlines in such situations. While IndiGo has stated that passenger safety is its top priority, many are demanding stronger accountability and policy reforms.

As investigations continue, the family hopes for justice but for now, the safe return of Hussain Mazumdar has brought some comfort to a village that had been anxiously waiting for news.
