MANGALDAI: The coal mafia has changed their route of transportation of illegal ‘black gold’ from the National Highway 37 to National Highway 15 via Kaliabor. This has been evident from a road accident as a truck laden with coal without valid documents and papers fell down on the NH 15 at Kharupetia in Darrang district on Friday night.

The truck heavily laden with coal and bearing registration number RJ 02 GB 7355 was going from Jagun of Margherita in Tinsukia district to Bihar. It met with the accident and the driver of the truck was immediately shifted to Guwahati in a critical state. However, the handyman of the truck has been taken to Kharupetia Police station. According to information till filing of this report, the handyman failed to produce any documents or permit for transporting the coal.

It has often been alleged that these coal-laden trucks coming from Tinsukia move without paying the sales tax and other government revenue. An organized circle in Tinsukia has reportedly been managing a section of senior police officials.

Few days back, Superintendent of Police of Darrang, Amrit Bhuyan seized several coal-laden trucks which compelled the organized coal mafia gang to take the NH 15. But with police busy in poll duties, the gang has again started their racket using forged and fake documents.
