JORHAT: At least four sand-laden trucks with no number plates and without valid papers and challan were seized by forest officials and traffic police, Jorhat from Nehru Park area in Jorhat Forest Division under Jorhat Police Station on Tuesday.
According to forest sources, two trucks were of 300 CFT, one truck of 400 CFT and another truck with 250 CFT capacity. All were found to be without valid papers or with valid registration number for which they need to pay certain amount of money as fine to the forest as well as to the transport department.
Moreover, since the new DFO, Devendra Suman took charge, there has been a crackdown on illegal activities like carrying natural resources and cutting of sand from the shore areas along the Brahmaputra. Several cases were registered and fines were collected during the tenure of the IFS official in the last 8-9 months, said sources.
