GUWAHATI: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of rainfall in Assam this winter. The rain is expected to affect 10 districts, which may disrupt daily life. The districts that will be affected include Nagaon, Karbi Anglong, Hojai, Sribhumi, Hailakandi, Dhubri, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, and South Salmara.

According to the IMD, rain is expected to begin today, which will probably impact these regions. As is typical in winter, there will be a brief drop in temperature, but the rain may pose problems, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas.

Meanwhile, earlier last month, Assam Police had released an instructional video emphasizing the need for road safety in view of the joyous picnic season and the difficulties caused by winter fog. Important safety measures for leisure travel and driving in bad weather were highlighted in the advisory.

The video had advised that a sober driver be assigned for every trip. Travelers were encouraged to ensure that driving responsibility was assigned to a non-drinking individual so that all members were safe during the outings. Travel planning based on weather forecasts was also encouraged, with a strong recommendation against traveling when it was raining heavily or was foggy.

The police had added that journeys should be restricted to daylight hours, beginning after sunrise and ending before sunset, in order to reduce risks associated with low visibility.
